2018 Worldwide Desktop PC Market Forecast

Market Analysis: Desktop PC Market

This report presents worldwide PC and worldwide desktop PC market volume per year for the period 2011 – 2018 and per quarter for the period 1Q 2012 – 4Q 2014. Also included are forecasts of worldwide desktop PC market volume and share by region and by CPU connector type.

This report also provides comparison of worldwide AIO PC and desktop PC volume, as well as worldwide motherboard and desktop PC market volume. This research finds that the worldwide desktop PC shipment volume, which fell 0.5% year on year in 2013, is forecasted to see milder decline in 2014, mainly due to the strong replacement demand in the enterprise market. In consideration of maintaining employees’ productivity, most companies will opt to purchase Windows 7 PCs, instead of the latest touch-control Windows 8.1.

However, the penetration rate of touch control AIO PCs is expected to keep growing, as more vendors are developing related technologies at lower costs. The worldwide AIO PC/desktop PC shipment volume ratio is projected to reach 17% in 2018, from around 14% in 2014. The worldwide motherboard/desktop PC shipment volume ratio is projected to remain above 112% during the period 2014 – 2018.

Motherboard Market Forecast Around the Globe 2018

Industry Review: Decline in the Worldwide Motherboard Market Alleviated on Enterprise Replacement Demand in 2013

In retrospect, the worldwide motherboard Market shipments were lower than expected in the first quarter of 2013. This was mainly attributed to vendors' inventory stock-up ahead of the Chinese New Year and the still lackluster market demand after the holiday. In the second quarter, as the transition between new and older platforms was hindered by the defects of the 8-series chipsets for Haswell processors, demand for new products in the end-user market was languid. Instead of deploying new products, vendors shifted to put more efforts on digesting their inventories. In the third quarter, the mainstream and entry-level Haswell chipset platforms were launched in time to meet the strong demand during the back-to-school season and China's October holiday. Together with the replacement demand in the enterprise market spurred by Microsoft's rollout of new OS (Operating System) Windows 8.1, the worldwide motherboard market saw a positive growth in shipments in the third quarter of 2013. In the past, the fourth quarter mainly saw vendors adjusting their inventory levels. However, with Microsoft's new OS stimulating replacement demand in the enterprise desktop PC market, contract manufacturers saw further growth in shipment volume when desktop PC branded vendors were stocking inventories. According to an ICT industry research, the worldwide motherboard shipment volume in 2013 reached approximately 143.2 million units, down 2.8% year on year.

Worldwide Motherboard Shipment Volume, 1Q 2012- 4Q 2014

In 2014, it is expected that consumers will take a more conservative attitude towards product procurement since the pace of economic recovery in mature markets remains slow and the growth momentum in emerging markets continues to languish. Besides, with drop in prices of notebook PCs and growing popularity of tablets and smartphones, an increasing number of consumers will opt to buy mobile devices, which are relatively low-cost and have a shorter product life cycle. As the impact continues, some motherboard branded vendors have set a cap on their inventory levels to avoid excessive stockpile. It is anticipated that branded vendors will be more cautious when pulling in products from ODM partners.

In the enterprise market, the transition between new and older OSs and concern over information security will spur replacement demand and therefore bolster the motherboard market in 2014. In the end-user market, constant price decline and the rise of emerging computing devices have helped extend the usage life span of desktop PCs. Overall, the decline in worldwide motherboard industry's shipment volume will be significantly lessened in 2014, with total shipment volume reaching around 142.7 million units, slightly down 0.3% year on year. As emerging markets have become the major markets for motherboards, value-line products will have an increasing share in the industry's shipments. It is projected that the industry's shipment value in 2014 will reach US$6.2 billion, down 0.4% year on year.

Global Thermal Management Systems Market for Electronic Equipment Market Overview 2018

Analysts forecast the Global Thermal Management Systems Market for Electronic Equipment to grow at a CAGR of 7.66 percent over the period 2013-2018. The Report recognizes the following companies as the key players in Global Thermal Management Systems Market for Electronic Equipment.

This report covers the present scenario and the growth prospects of the Global Thermal Management System market for Electronics Equipment for the period 2013-2018.To calculate the market size, it considers the revenue generated from the sales of:
  • Hardware
  • Software
  • Interface Materials
  • Substrate

Polymer composite interface materials can be easily encapsulated into small electronic equipment without compromising the functioning of the system. Polymer composite can be manufactured in different shapes and sizes, unlike metal and phase change materials. Polymer composites have high flexural strength and tensile stiffness, and are lightweight. These special properties make polymer composite materials a preferred choice for end-users. It is expected that the demand for this material will grow at a very high rate during the forecast period.

According to the report, the Global Thermal Management System market for Electronic Equipment is driven by several factors, of which the increasing demand for thermal management systems in computers is one of the major drivers. ICs, microprocessors, and miniaturized electronic components embedded inside computers generate large amounts of heat, thus creating the need for an effective thermal management system.

Further, the report states that one of the major challenges is that thermal management software is not the first choice of buyers. Computational fluid dynamics, electronic design automation, power management, and circuit board design software are used to design thermal management systems for much electronics equipment. The implementation of thermal management hardware in products saves time and expense for vendors. However, in the long run, this might negatively affect the functioning of the system as it does not undergo a thorough testing process through various simulation models.

The Global Thermal Management Systems Market for Electronic Equipment 2014-2018, has been prepared based on an in-depth market analysis with inputs from industry experts. The report covers the Americas, and the EMEA and APAC regions; it also covers the Global Thermal Management Systems Market for Electronic Equipment landscape and its growth prospects in the coming years. The report also includes a discussion of the key vendors operating in this market.

NAND Flash Market Analyzed by Industry Experts

NAND flash memory is a non-volatile storage technology that enables rapid read and write operations in memory cards. With respect to the design of NAND flash memory chips, the memory cells in these chips are connected in a series that resembles a NAND gate. The series connection consumes less space than a parallel connection, reducing the cost of NAND flash devices. This makes the cost of NAND flash cards reasonable; they also become easily scalable to large densities. Moreover, the production cost of NAND flash is less than that of NOR flash, NAND flash technology is widely used in digital cameras, MP3 players, USB flash drives, and other devices.
Analysts forecast the Global NAND Flash Memory market will grow at a CAGR of 10.7 percent over the period 2013-2018.
